THE BOMBAY BRANCH AUGUST MEETING HELD VISITORS HEARTILY WELCOMED The monthly meeting of the Bombay Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon last, the president, Mrs L. R. Hope, presiding over a largo attendance including members from Papakura, Ramarama and Ararimu Instilules. who were given a hearty welcome. The meeting opened with I lie singing of the “Ode to Friendship.” Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Best, Mrs J. B. McKinney, Mrs Harrison. Mrs A. Ingram and Mrs Townsend.

Opportunity was token to farewell Mrs AV. Grant who is leaving the district. The president expressed the regret of all members at Mrs Grant’s departure as she had been one of the most helpful members. In presenting her with a long service badge and a beautiful bouquet of freesias and violets, members hoped that her sphere of service would be extended in another Institute. Musical honours were then accorded Mrs Grant.

Tn a very happy little speech Mrs Grant said she had spent, ten happy years at Bombay and made many good friends among the members whom she was sorry to leave. One thanked everyone for their good wishes and expressed a hope for the Institute’s continued success.

Birthday greetings in flowers were given to Mrs W. A. Peterson. A very popular demonstration of spinning was given by Mrs Lloyd of Buckland, and Mrs Sutton of Papakura. The wool and the fmish-ed garments exhibited by Mrs Lloyd made a strong appeal to members. The demonstrators were thanked most sincerely by the president and presented with floral tokens. Woollen squares and handkerchiefs for patriotic purposes were handed in. A “bring and buy” stall was well patronised. The monthly competition, “Scones made with butter,” resulted: Mrs A. Brown I, Mrs A. J. Browne 2, Mrs J. Snell 3. The Institute flower show was arranged for September 9. A welcome afternoon tea was served by Mrs C. Truce and Mrs W. A. Peterson and thus a happy meeting was brought to a close.
