THE RED CROSS

PATUMAHOE BRANCH . LAST SATURDAY’S BIG EFFORT SPLENDID CONCERT PRESENTED As. stated in Monday’s issue the Patumahoe branch of tlic Red Gross Society raised nearly £32U (die amount is now larger) as a result of a concert in die hall on Saturday evening by the Arcadian Revellers’ Revue Company from Auckland. The company was featured in “No Black Out Tonignt,” a production arranged and presented by Mr Percy N. White, in which Flo White and Snowy Beacham were the stars. There was not a dull moment from curtain rise to curtain fall, and Patumahoe’s record crowd (many were compelled to stand) enjoyed to the full one of the best productions ever staged at Patumahoe, in fact in the Franklin district. Well Balanced Programme The programme was well balanced and contained a wide variety of items. While every number was enjoyed perhaps the most remarkable was the “contortionist,” Miss Yvonne de Baugh. This young lady alone was worth every penny of the admission charge. Circuses visiting this district have presented some brilliant contortionists but all must take second "place to Miss de Baugh. Another outstanding turn was given by Byko, the wizard on the bikes. What this fellow cannot accomplish on a two-wheeler or a one-wheeler, cannot be done. He was billed as a wizard and a wizard he was. There were other grand items including the “Three o’clock Limited” Rhythm Ballet which, by tap dancing, produced the noises made by the wheels oi a heavy locomotive. This talented company not only travels to different centres to raise funds for patriotic and other needs, but visits territorial and mobilisation camp to entertain the troops, this is part of the war effort by the personnel. The company appears in public on about two nights a week. If this splendid company of entertainers ever visits the district again, it can be assured of another packed house, as its effort last Saturday night was so much enjoyed The programme was as follows: Overture, The Arcadian Revellers Orchestra.
