THE GLENBROOK BRANCH FEBRUARY MEETING HELD first IN TITF. NSW YEAR The Glenbrook Women’s Institute held its first meeting in 1940 in February, Mrs Gearon presiding over a large attendance of members and friends, who were received by Mrs Hepburn. After the singing of the Ode, ' the president extended a cordial welcome I , all present, with a special greeting lo members from Mt. Albert and Kohe Kobe Institutes. Two new members were proposed and welcomed into the Institute. After Ihe business of the afternoon had been concluded, a delightful ilem, ••Roomps-a-Daisy,” in period costume was presented by two juniors from Kohe Kohe. Mrs llowson, president of Ml. Albert Institute, gave a very enjoyable address on “The Romance of Tea. ’ also a talk on Institute affairs. To illustrate Mrs Howson’s address. there was on display a charming collection of antique china, which evoked much interest from members.

Mrs Sheffield, president of Kohe Kohe Institute, entertained with two' eicculionary items, receiving in appree,iMlion a hearty round of applause. Gills of flowers were made to the visilors liv Mrs Gearon. who thanked Homo mi behalf of the members, for Ihojr attendance and help. Corn petit ions were won by I he. follrwing: Sponge, Mrs Gearon; collection of vegetables, Mrs Wright: best, bloom, Mrs Bregrnen.

A most successful bring and buy was held during the afternoon, the proceeds going to augment, Institute funds.

The competition for March will be IVi a howl of autumn llowers.

THE TUAKAU BRANCH ANNUAL OUTING In spite of inclement weather several members of the Tuakau branch of the Women’s Institute journeyed to Greenhithe last week for the annual outing, where they were the. guests of Mrs Irwin. The event, was really the group meeting of the. area lo which other branches had been invitd. Those, who made the trip are most enthusiastic and are looking lorward to an opportunity to return to Greenhithe.
