A PRESENTATION
MR P. HERKT HONOURED CLEVER PAPAKURA FORWARD At a pleasant function in the Papakura Post Office, a presentation of a gold-mounted fountain pen was made to Mr P. Herkt, of the exchange staff, who as been transferred to the transport section, Wellington. In making the presentation on behalf of the staff the postmaster, Mr G. II Davis, referred to Mr Herkt’s excellent. record of service in Papakura during the last two years,- and was, Mr Davis said, a most efficient - officer. His record on the football field amongst the forwards in the Papakura League Club’s seniors had singled him out in the eyes of some shrewd judges, as one who had a very even chance of making the trip to England with the League. Mr Herkt was just the one to stand up to those rugged Lancashire and Yorkshire players and he wished him the best of luck.
Several other speakers spoke in eulogistic terms, including the supervisor. Mr A. W. McNeish. who described Mr Herkt’s work both as an officer of the department, and a Rugby League player, as outstanding. Mr Herkt suitably replied.
