Stale Housing: In a letter to the council the Parliamentary Under-Sec-retary for Housing, Mr .1. A. Lee, stated he would he pleased to meet, the Mayor and councillors regarding housing 1 matters In the borough, but could not state at the moment when the Government would extend its activities to Papakura. His present official duties were rather heavy and he coulcl not suggest a date. —The Mayor said it was gratifying to have the assurance of a personal visit from Mr Lee, when he could he shown suitable areas in ibe borough on which to build houses, which were urgently required. One hundred miles’ cycle race: The New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association applied for permission to use Beach Road as the finishing post for the 100-mile cycle race. The secretary, Mr L. Wilson, staled Mr F. J. Casey had interviewed Mr .T. Ainsworth, chief traffic inspector, who had informed him that he had no objection to riders finishing at Beach Road provided no objection was taken by the council. Mr Ainsworth had detailed the necessary precautions to lie taken regarding the keeping clear of the road at the finishing point.—The council voiced no objection and granted permission, subject to the precautions detailed by the inspector being adhered to.
