LOSS TO AGRICULTURE

GLEVEDON FARMER PASSES MR N. J. SUTHERLAND The death lias occurred of Mr Neil John Sutherland, farmer, ol' Glevedon South, at the age of 52 years. The youngest son or the late Mr and Mrs Hugh Sutherland (who emigrated from Nova Scotia with the early Waipu settlers), Mr Sutherland has been farming at Glevedon South during his life-time. Twenty-four years ago Mr Sutherland married Miss Jessie Elizabeth Shove, also a descendant of the Waipu settlers. Mr Sutherland, who held office as an elder in the Glevedon Presbyterian Church, was very earnest in his religion and took a keen interest in the welfare of his church. Having been associated with many local bodies for a long period, Mr Sutherland had a wonderful record of public service. He was a foundation member of the Glevedon A. and P. Association and has served on Ihe executive committee since its inception 2D years ago, and held the Office of president. During the lost 1G years Mr Sutherland has attend 110 meetings out of 12 h and he was an enthusiastic exhibitor of hacks, hunters and Friesian cattle. Mr Sutherland was also a member and keen supporter of the Auckland A. and P. Association, Die Franklin A. and P. Scciely and Die Pakuranga Hunt Glut). At Die time of his death lie held the .offices of chairman of Die Wairoa South school committee and chairman of the Glevedon branch of the Otahuhu electorate of Die National Party, and he was also- a past noble grand of No. 75 1.0.0. He is survived by Mrs Sutherland, three sons and three daughters. The funeral, which look place on Wednesday at Glevedon, was one of the largest attended in the district, the cortege being over a mile long. An immense number of lloral emblems testified to his popularity. A memorial service for Mr Suihcrland will he held in Die Glevedon Presbyterian church on Sunday next at 11 a.m.
