LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

PAPAKURA v. NORTHCOTE.

GOOD STANDARD OF PLAY

Combination played a big part in the success of the Papakura senior B team on Saturday and the score of 21 to 10 in favour of Papakura was a fair indication of the merits of the teams. The visitors were lighter, but compensated for this in their speed and defensive abilities. Both teams made the pace a cracker from' start to finish, the large gathering of spectators being treated to football of a high standard. The half-time score was B—s8 —5 in favour of Papakura men who played with the advantage of the sun and were slightly lucky on changing round, the sun being obscured. Northcote made a great fight and it was anyone’s game till the Burgess

brothers got going in their spectacular manner and scored a couple of tries. They were worth going a long way to see. and both showed clearly how dangerous they are when they have a bit of room lo work in. Phillips, at fullback, played a sound game, and got in several wonderful line kicks. The forwards, with the exception of Homewood and Evans, did not impress, and although they used their weight to advantage in the scrums, they were otherwise disappointing. Taylor had a great deal to do on the wing, hut lie was better on defence than attack. Papakura still leads in the championship, but will

have to improve as other teams are doincr in order to maintain the lead.
