GROUND RENT.
INCREASE DECIDED ON. LEAGUE CLUB AND THE PARK. A sharp increase in the rental of Prince Edward park to the Papakura Rugby League Club was decided on by the Papakura Town Board meeting this week. Mr H. D. Spinley said he was aware that ground rents in Auckland had increased, but to raise the charge from £5 to £lO was not “playing the game” with the League club when compared with the board’s proposal to charge the Rugby union club £1 Is for the railway reserve. Mr D. Weir: If the railway reserve was in the same condition as Prince Edward park it, too, would be worth £lO, but the reserve is rough and nas not the same facilities as the park. Mr G. F. McDonald concurred. In view of the position'which arose at Manurewa between the town board and bowling club, a question was asked whether League club vice-presi-dents who were board members should exercise their votes. “I am not a vice-president,” said one member, “and never have been.
“Well, your name was in the paper,” stated another. “I was not consulted and I never gave my consent, was the reply. The rent for the park for the season was fixed at £lO and that for the reserve at £1 Is.
