WOMEN’S DIVISION.

MANGATAWHIRI BRANCH. The Mangatawhiri women’s was fortunate in having a fipe day for its fourth birthday celebrations which took the form of a picnic in Mr Geo. Lyons’ paddock. The beautiful , shady trees near the bush gave all the ! shelter that was necessary!, Visitors from Clevedon and Onewhero, with local members and their friends, made a very happy party. At 1 p.m. all sat down to an appetising lunch. The afternoon was spent in competitions and games. A paper chase arranged by Mrs Holiday was won by Mrs S. Mcllroy and- the memory test by Mrs G. Hastie. At the conclusion of afternoon tea Mrs Lyons lit the four candles which adorned the beautiful birthday cake and in a neat speech thanked the visitors for their presence and help to make the afternoon so enjoyable. Mrs Lyons then presented the prizes for most points won during the year to Miss Ethel Mcllroy first and Miss Eunice Young second. Mrs Orr and Mrs Campbell also gave short addresses. Before leaving for liome a vote of appreciation was passed to Mr and Mrs G. Lyons on behalf of the division members for the use of their paddock and the help they had given. THE PUKEKAWA BRANCH. A very successful flower show was held by the Pukekawa branch -of the women’s division. The following were in charge of the various sections: — Flowers, Mrs Mason, Misses Long and Mason; vegetables, Mesdames M. Orr and McArthur; cooking, Mesdames Elwin and T. Logan; preserves, Mesdames Hawke and Young; door, Mrs Whitehead.

Mr A. B. Fordyce, Tuakau, judged the entries of the Pukekawa school children, Mrs Graham (Buckland), the flowers, and Mrs J. Long the cakes and preserves.

Members donated the various prizes. The points prize, given by Mrs Daley, was won by Mrs K. D. Orr. Most points in the flower section were gained by Mrs T. Logan, while Mrs Elwin won most points in the cooking section.

A rich fruit cake, given by Mrs M. Orr, realised £1 3s, the winner being Miss Canty. During the afternoon Mrs 0. G. Brewster, presented Mrs J. Cathcart, who is leaving the district, with a gift from the members, and Mrs Henderson, Onewhero, gave an interesting talk on “Flowers.”

An amusing one-act play, “A world without men,” produced by Miss J. Orr, and presented by members of the junior branch, was much appreciated. Afternoon tea, under the supervision of Mesdames R. Bell and Hunter, brought an enjoyable afternoon to a close.
