| PAPAKURA CLUB’S DANCE. ! ! PRESENTATION OF CAPS. j The Regent theatre was thronged' with dancers on Tuesday evening, the | occasion being the Papakura Rugby League Club’s dance. The attendance; i was estimated at 450. Visitors were | present from all surrounding districts- ' Special lighting effects were introduci ed and were very favourably comment,ed upon. During the evening mem- | hers of the senior B team, who won ; the Sharman cup and Walrnsley shield j competition, were presented with their | caps.' The president, Mr Gordon Wil- ' son. in a few brief remarks .thanked all for attending and assisting to make the function a success. He alsomade reference' to Mr E. Phil’s (the club’s vice-captain) record of playing five seasons without missing a single match. The manager (Mr Les McVeagh) presented caps to the following players: W. Cornthwaite (captain), E. Pope (vice-captain), R. Burgess, Dick Burgess. Athol Burgess, Arthur Slater, Roy Pyke, Ray Richardson. W. K. Francis, Leon Taylor, Weston Taylor, Harold Hawley, Dennis Evans, Craig Smith, Jim Homewood, Frank Hely, W. Burrell. Mr Pope, in returning thanks for * the caps said it was true that in five years he had not missed a game and had played about 95 games. (Applause). He appealed to young men to join up with the club, as they were assured of splendid treatment by the officials. He also paid a tribute to the skipper of the team, Mr W. Cornthwaite, whom he said a few years ago was a member of the Auckland Rugby Union’s representative tea#.

The captain, who was greeted with cheers, said he was pleased to see the senior B’s get the trophies. They had worked hard and their success was deserved. League had got a strong hold in Papakura now, and some day he expected the club to win the senior championship. (Loud applause). He urged all present to . patronise the dances next season and so help the club along socially and financially.
