SENIOR B’S BEAT BREEN LANE. PAPAKURA GRADE CHAMPIONS. Playing at Green Lane on a spongy ground and in a drizzling rain, Papakura senior B gained a victory over Green Lane by eight points to six in a fairly even game. Papakura (red) kicked off against a stiff breeze and at once set fhe backs in action, the ball travelling along the chain to A. Slater, whowas brought down near the line. A penalty to Green Lane (green) sent' | the reds back and from a. scrum the greens were almost over, but great tackling kept them out. Good dribbling by Evans and Francis took play to midfield where Gornthwaite p'cked up and sent to E. Slater, to D. Burgess, hut a forward pass to Bob Burgess lost a good scoring chance. Almost immediately Pope sent a pass to Gornthwaite, to E. Slater, who beat two greens, hut huijg on too long. A scramble resulted and the greens forced. From the drop out the greens took play to the Papakura 25, and then from a rush Keesing scored, Gollin hitting the posts with the kick. Green Lane 3, Papakura 0. i Shortly after Green Lane came back again and the .call badly beat Pyke. allowing Gollin to dive over for a try . but the kick missed. Green Lane, 6; Papakura, 0. On resuming the Papakura forwards took play to the greens territory. Evans, with hall at toe kicked through for Hawley to score under the posts. Pope converted. Green Lane, 6: Papakura, 5. From the kick off the greens took play downfleld, Pope sending them back with a good kick. From a scrum in the greens’ 25, Pope sent a pass to Gornthwaite, to E. Slater, to D. Burgess, who scored, mating the score: Papakura, 8; Green Lane, 6. Encouraged by their success the reds were now playing better football and from a dribbling rush Evans appeared to score but the referee ruled otherwise. With the play at mid-field the whistle sounded time, leaving Papakura \Vinners by 8 points to 6. For , Papakura, Gornthwaite was 7 outstanding for his tackling His good kicking and positional play got his side out of difficulties.- Pope, L.
