'papakura defeats waiuku.

Papakura senior B and Waiuku lined up at Prince Edward park on Saturday afternoon before .a-large attendance. The game, was ’'fast, and brilliant. The first few minutes of play

were characterised by speedy dashes by the local backs;-, but when pressed ’] in their own 25 turned defence into atj tack, play sweeping the whole length !of the field for N. Corrithwaite to 'touch down under the posts. , B. i Pope converted. Play had only been in progress another two minutes when Papakura were over again, a devastatj ing forward rush resulting in W. Franois dashing over after a run from the 25 line. The next try was a fine piece of work by the senior B’s crack winger, Slater, who, receiving the ball from Pope in his own 25, by sheer speed and clever fending dashed over after a 75 yards ’sprint. After a quiet period Bob Burgess scampered across, under hte posts, after a tricky run, for B. Pope to convert. W. Taylor fended off two tacklers to score in the corner. The half, time score was: Papakura, 19, Waiuku, 0.

The second half provided more brilliant flashes by the home backs, but an injury at this stage to A. Burgess, the clever five-eighths, somewhat disorganised the attack. They ? kept

pressing however, but Waiuku never looked like scoring, though a couple of penalty kicks were missed within scoring range. Play was a little scrappy at this point, but the crowd rose to its toes as the forwards swept downfield with a great dribbling rush, which took play to the Waiuku 25, When Evans picked up and raced across under the posts, Pope again raising the flags. Waiuku threatened danger on two occasions but were kept out by strong tackling. Just when they looked like scoring Papakura were away again starting a pretty passing movement on their own goal line for the backs to sweep the whole length of the field, practically the whole team handling for Bob Burgess to give the final pass to Slater who again outpaced the opposition and touched down under the posts, Pope converting. An exciting game of first-class football ended with a decisive victory for Papakura by 29 points to nil.

Papakura finished the second round

with a lead of six championship points. This year’s senior B team is probably the best the club has fielded. It will be interesting to note how they will compare with the senior teams in Auckland when they take their place in the Roope Rooster competition later in the season. The club.played four matches on Saturday, winning three and losing one.

Other results are : Third grade: Papakura, 7, Green Lane 0.

Fifth grade: Papakura 27, Newton 0 Sixth grade: Avondale, 7, Papakura, 0.
