During - a recent week-end cricket match, an obvious decision came as a ' surprise to several players taking- part in a game of cricket, namely, that the square-leg umpire is the only person with jurisdiction for a hit wicket ap- ! peal. A little thought will show that | this is so and must he so. Fire Brigade Turns Out. When a motor lorry was being started on Monday at about 5 a.m. at the residence of Mr L .M. Yelavieh. Opaheke road, the engine back-fired and ignited benzine which burnt some of tlie wires—otherwise little dam- . age was done. The tire brigade was called out and under Superintendent ; J. Richardson, quickly put the lire out with a fire extinguisher. Football Clubs Active. Application for the use of Prince Edward park for the coming season was made to the town board on Monday evening by the Papakura League Football Club, which stated that' it desired to commence practice on Saturday. The request was referred to a committee comprising the chairman, Mr 11. E. McEntee, Messrs D. Weir and .1. M. Richardson. The Papakura Rugby Club in applying for the use of the railway reserve for six months staled it felt the charge of El I Os could be reduced as no maintenance was necessary. The question was deferred so that the board could communicate wilti the Grown Lands Department.
