LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

THE WALMSLEY SHIELD. WON BY PAPAKURA. The Papakura senior B team met and defeated Green Lane in the final match for the Walmsley shield on Saturday. The game was played at Prince Edward park before a fair number of spectators who were treated with a very even contest. The visitors were a heavier team and were very aggressive. Their thrusts, however, lacked finish and apart from individual pieces of good work, they did not look like scoring. Both teams adopted spoiling tactics, the result being a stern contest between two evenly matched sets of forwards. The backs of both sides were far from impressive but they had few opportunities. Papakura yvou by 6 points to 2 —three penalty goals against one. The locals crossed their objective several times to touch down for possible tries but were inevitably brought back for minor breaches that were hard to understand. The Papakura club’s activities this season have resulted in the senior B’s winning the knock-out competition and the Walmsley shield. The teams entered in the other grades met with little success and certainly did not do as well as they could have. Lack of interest and training has undoubtedly had its reward. Saturday’s game will possibly be the last for this season.
