LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

THE PAPAKURA CLUB.

SENIOR B TEAM’S EASY WIN. Saturday’s results are ; Senior B; Papakura 33, Waiuku 5. Second grade: Ponsonby 8; Papakura 7. Fifth grade: Newton 9, Papakura 0. Senior B. Only half the regular, team assembled to travel to Waiuku on Saturday, but as the fourth graders had a bye, a team was made up with their assistance. At this stage of petition, with Otahuhu and Papakura level in the lead with championship points, it was father risky sending a scratch team away. However, the Waiuku. team was very weak, again disclosing that it should be playing in a lower grade, and Papakura’s 13 proved too good for the home team. Indeed, they proved little inferior to the regular team, the "backs especially throwing the wet ball about recklessly. Fitzpatrick, playing on the wing, had a day on and scored four good tries. Being quick off the mark and revealing a rare turn of speed, his tries were quite up to the standard of the grade. The usual hooker, Craig Smith, being absent, Neal substituted in this position and won most of the scrums for Pope to set his backs going.

The home defence was poor and most of the team disclosed a lamentable lack of form with the result that Waiuku never at any time looked like fair opposition.

The game opened sensationally— Clarke following fast was about to fall on the ball over the line when he was pushed into the goal post and an obstruction try was awarded. This Pope converted. A few minutes later the ball was kicked over the Papakura line, several players dived to touch down and Waiuku were awarded a try and Vince converted and the score was five all.. From then on Papakura dominated play and the half time score was 19—5. Another 14 points were added in the second spell. The scorers were Fitzpatrick (4), Taylor, Clarke, Dick Burgess, Rosa and liolmwood one each, Pope converting two and Bob Burgess one.
