PAPAKURA NEWS.

LEAGUE FOOTBALL. PAPAKURA CLUB. SATURDAY’S MATCHES. Saturday’s results are:— Senior B: Otahuhu, 10, Papakura, 3. Fourth grade: Papakura, 10, Point Chevalier B, 2. Fifth grade: Papakura. 3, Mt. Albert, 0. THE SENIOR B MATCH. Papakura journeyed to Otahuiiu to ploy the return match and sustained its first defeat by two converted tries 1o one unconverted. Otahuhu was the better team and deserved the win, though the points scored did not come from spectacular play. Indeed, the game was uninteresting ond not up to the usual standard for the grade. Papakura’s team was not the regular one, Craig Smith, Gray and Taylor being replaced by Francis, Evans and Young. The substitutes played well individually but the team lacked sting and the attack was much below usual form.

The first try came to Otahuhu after a scramble on Papakura’s line, m-ar the goal posts, and was easily converted. A passing movement in Otahuhu territory broke down with a poor

pass, and an Otahuhu player picked up nicely to break away with two or three others ija support. The reds’ fullback was evaded cleverly, and a try under the posts resulted. The try was converted.. Papakura faced the second half with a 10-point deficit. Wilson came up from fullback to second five-eighth on resuming, and lie soon improved the attack. Otahuhu was quick in realising the danger and played right on top of the reds’ inside backs. In spite of this, Wilson scored a good try—the only chance he had. This was a signal for Papakura to play with more dash, but the defence held without the scores being altered. These two teams find themselves at the end of the second round with equal championship points, so providing each accounts for the other teams in the competition, their next meeting should decide the 1935 championship. LIKELY TO PLAY IN CITY. IVAN WILSON APPROACHED. Tvan Wilson, one of the stalwarts of the Papakura senior B team, has been approached by one of the senior teams in the city, and there is a strong possibility that he will be forsaking the red jersey at an early date. He is a fullback equal to the majority playing senior grade, and showed on Saturday when he moved to the fiveeighth line that he is a very versatile player.
