Permission to Play Waihi. At Tuesday evening’s meeting of the South Auckland Rugby Football Union, permission was given the Franklin union to send a team to Waihi on June 3. Mauku Riding Works. At the suggestion of the chairman, Mr J. N. Massey, M.P., Cr. J. Henry was requested by the Franklin County Council on Wednesday to present to next meeting a schedule of roads in Mauku riding on which it is desirable to carry out works. Applications For Highways. The Franklin County Council at its meeting on Wednesday decided to submit applications to the Main Highways Board for declaration of the following as main highways: Continuation of Awhitu road as far as Awhitu Central, link between Otaua and Waiuku, Humia to Bombay road, and the road from the Whangarata road to River road, Tuakau. Very Optimistic. The members of the new Dairy Produce Board are confident that before the. end&bf the New Zealand winter, the: price for 'Dominion butter on the London marl^gj,’ will reach 100 s per e\yt. With the object of improving the view at the Paerata road level crossing (Waiuku-Paerata line), the district engineer of the Railway' Department in a letter to the Franklin Coun- . ty Council on Wednesday requested that a length of hedge at the approach to the crossing be cut down. The council agreed;.to comply with;the re-, quefei, and the owner of the property is i 4 be notified accordingly. « ' * ' \t~. . i Conversion of Loans." Advice that the Franklin County Council’s scheme for the conversion of loans had been approved by the Local Government Loans Board was received at Wednesday’s council meeting. The clerk, Mr Alan P. Day, reported that the order-in-council consenting to the proposals had been issued this week'. A formal resolution in connection with the scheme was carried, and it was decided to hold a special meeting on the occasion of next monthly meeting in order to adopt a resolution.

Dance at Patumahoe. The Patumahoe Tennis Club has arranged a dance to be held on June 8. Details will be advertised in the Times next week. Winter Show and Races. The Railway Department draws attention to a special advertisement appearing in this issue in connection wilh the Waikato Winter Show at Hamilton and races at Eilerslie. Appointment of Assessor. Only one nomination being received, the Franklin County Council at its meeting on Wednesday appointed Mr R. Lyons of Mangatawhiri, as assessor for the council, under the Valuation of Land Act, 1927. Valuation of County. Advice that preparations were being made for an early start with the revaluation of the Franklin county as from March 31 next, was received by the council at its meeting on Wednesday from the Minister in charge of the Valuation Department, the lion. E. A. Ransom, in reply to an enquiry made. Pokeno-Paeroa Highway. Reporting to the Franklin County Council meeting on Wednesday relative to Pokeno-Paeroa main highway, the engineer, Mr .1. F. McArthur, stated that an engineering survey had been made and plans prepared as to the construction of a bridge culvert, excavation of waterway, grade easement and ♦metalling. During the coming week, proposals were to be forwarded to the Main Highways Board for approval. The estimated cost of the proposed work was upwards of £476. Motor Cycle Club Meets. A general meeting of the Pukekoho Motor Cycle Club was held last night, Mr J. Morrin presiding. The trophies were presented to the winners of the last trial by the secretary, Mr A. B. Cressey. A decision was reached to donate a trophy for the year to the most enthusiastic member of the club, The meeting unanimously agreed !•< hold another reliability trial on June 2, arrangements to be finalised by the committee. The next general meeting is to be held on July 23. Motors in Collision. A collision between a local taxi owned by Mr W. McGlean, and a light motor truck driven by a Maori, “Snowy” Tipene, who resides near Mercer, occurred at Die intersection of Ivlanukau road and Massey avenue -ii about 8 o’clock list evening. The truck was crossing Manukau road going toward Bombay while the taxi was heeding to war 1 Ruckland. It appears that the mar front of the taxi hit the rear of the Ruck, v hich was loaded vvith pigs. Minor damage was caused to the truck and fairly extensive damage to the car. No one was hurt.

Auckland Winter Exhibition. The management of the Auckland Winter Exhibition has just distributed a large number of schedules for the forthcoming fixture in July, and judging by the applications made for them, this year should supply a record of entries. Now more than at any other time in the history of New Zealand, there is a definite call for co-opera-tion between the primary and secondary industries, to enable each to see and appreciate what the other is doing. There is no better way for the two great bodies of producers, primary and secondary, getting together for a perfect understanding than at such an institution as the Auckland Winter Exhibition, which can be safely claimed to be the largest of its kind in New Zealand. A Glenbrook Request. The metalling of Permain’s road (Glenbrook), situated between Brown’s gully road and Quinn’s road was urged by a deputation, comprising Messrs J. T. Gearon, Permain, McKinney and Gilmore, which waited on the Franklin County Council on Wednesday. Mr Gilmore pointed out that there was a gap of 42 chains, the metalling of which would provide allweather access to Pukekohe, Waiuku and Auckland. There were 14 settlers interested. Mr Gearon said there was 1700 cubic yards of metal in the vicinity, and no earthwork would be necessary. The chairman, Mr J. N. Massey, M.P., pointed out that the policy of the council was to metal as many roads as possible, and the request would be given consideration. The principal work in the district was the metalling of Brown’s gully road, for. which it was hoped to obtain a subsidy.
