THE KOPURAHI ELEVEN.

A CONVINCING DISPLAY.

DANCE IN THE EVENING. A bus load and several car loads of members and supporters of the Kopurahi (Hauraki Plains) ladies’ hockey club visited Bombay on Wednesday as the guests of the Bombay Ladies’ Hockey Club. During the afternoon a match between Bombay and the visitors was played on the Bombay Recreation ground, at which there was an attendance of over 100, and both elevens gave a most entertaining exhibition of the code. Kopurahi, an old established club, and one of the strongest on the Hauraki Plains, held too many guns for the younger but no less keener Bombay players, romped off vietpt,:: to the tune of eight goals to nil, after one of the most exciting games ever seen at Bombay. Goal getters for the winners were: Misses E. Candy (3), A. Candy (2), K. Gardiner (2), and G. Hales. Althougn outclassed the local girls were by no means disgraced and with more experience and knowledge of the finer points of the game should soon be able to turn the tables on their conquerors. The referees were Messrs Field (Kopurahi) and R. Reynolds (Fombay). v After the match the visitors were entertained to a delicious afternoon tea and later were the guests of the Bombay girls at dinner. In the evening the visitors were the guests of Bombay at a dance held In the Bombay hall when there was a very large attendance, fullji 100 couples occupying the floor. The master of ceremonies was Mr A. H. Whitehead, who kept things moving with a swing -with the result that one of the most enjoyable dances for a long time was spent. The incentive to dance was provided by the Rialto band from Newmarket," while appreciated extras were played by Mrs Harrison (Bombay) anu Miss Hales (Kopurahi). Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Miss Harwood (Kopurahi) and Mr E. Whitmore (Pukekohe East) and Miss Joan Tuotiey (Bombay) and Mr B. Carter (Pukekohe East). Thanks, on behalf of Bombay, were extended to the visitors for giving the public such a good exhibition of the game, and an invitation accorded them to return in the future.

Mr Field, coach and manager of the visiting team, thanked the Bombay club for inviting his team to visit the district and for its unbounded hospitality, which he hoped Kopurahi would have the opportunity of reciprocating at no distant date.

Cheers were exchanged after which an appetising supper was served which greatly enhanced the success of the evening. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a memorable evening to a; colse.

The Bombay Ladies’ Hockey Club thanks all who assisted in any way to make the function such an overwhelming success.
