Pukekohe Wins A.A. Garage Cup.
Messrs Howe and Weston, garage proprietors, Pukekohe, have been awarded the garage cup, donated for competition among the garages in the Auckland Automobile Association district, for the greatest number of new members enrolled for the association. The competition extended over four months and was really inaugurated as a campaign for new members. Messrs Howe and Weston enrolled 10 which, despite prevailing economic conditions, proves the popularity of the association among motorists and further that the work of the association is appreciated. This handsome trophy is at present on view in Messrs Howe and Weston’s showroom.
New Bridge at Pokeno.
The old bridge on the Great South road about half a mile south of Pokeno, more familiarly known as Leathem’s bridge, is to be replaced by a concrete structure. The new bridge, which is to be supported by 22 piles of a diameter of 1 Ain. and ranging in length up to 21ft., will have a span of 40ft., a carriage-way of 24ft. and a footway 4 ft. in width. The' piles are now being constructed and a start to erect the structure will be made in about three weeks. The cdntractors are H. Bray and Company. ’ Since the road was formed through Pokeno by the soldiers, the old bridge has been in constant use.
