LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

THE PAPAKURA CLUB. TWO WINS AND TWO DRAWN GAMES. ’ Papakura’s games on Saturday resulted in two being won and two drawn. Botli the fourth and fifth grade teams have played drawn games in their two competition matches to date. The senior B team travelled to Waiuku and after a fairly even game ran out the winners by 15 points, to 11. The second grade team defeated Manukau by 20 to 11. The fourths drew with Richmond, 10 all, and the fifths drew with Akarana three all.

SECOND GRADE. After being defeated by 30 points to nil the previous Saturday, the team playing on its home ground sprang a surprise by defeating a Manukau team by 20 to 11. The visitors, comprised mostly of Maoris, were a hefty lot. and the points they scored were the result of brawn, rather than combination. The score board was opened by Young with a penalty goal to Papakura, and a minute later a nice breakaway by Evans with Young in support, gave the latter an easy try under the posts. This was converted by Cook and the locals had seven points lead.

A penalty goal and then a try made the score: Manukau 5, Papakura 7, but Papakura’s margin was immediately increased when Munro, playing his first game of League, broke away, to score for Young to improve. Papakura 12, Manukau 5. Thompson then scored an unconverted try for Papakura, this apparently being a signal for Manukau to wake up, for with sudden bursts they scored twice in a few minutes. The goal kicking was poor and the score was: Papakura 15, Manukau 11.

From a half way drop out by Papakura Evans collected and dodged his way through the whole of the opposition to. score a sensational try, the converting of which was no trouble io Young. With Papakura still attacking the final whistle blew with the score: Papakura 20, Manukau 11.
