LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

PAPAKURA CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Papakura Rugby League Football Club was held on Monday evening, the president, Mr S. 11. Godden, presiding over a large attendance of players and supporters. The report and balance sheet were presented and approved. Extracts from the report showed that the increase in membership last season necessitated the entering of five teams in the competition. There were 100 playing members, and 29 honorary members. Although there was only one championship gained —the second grade knock-out —all the teams made a good showing. The club entered a team in the “Roope rooster” competition, and showed by its performances that the local standard was good. The second grade team'played an exhibition match at Waiuku at the request of the Auckland League, and also engaged the Newton Rangers’ senior team on the- local ground. Messrs Alf Scott, Trevor Hall and S. Rillman gave valuable advice during the season.

The annual social held in the Regent theatre, proved a great success, mainly through the help of Mr H. A. Pollock, one. of the club’s stalwart supporters. During the social the president presented the Aitcheson medal to R. Aukett of the fourth gjade team. The report concluded by expressing thanks to the many friends ■and supporters who assisted in making the last season a “League success.” The balance sheet disclosed that the cost of transport last season was £SO, while the profit from,the socials held amounted t.o £43. These figures alone show the necessity of maintaining a strong speial committee. The treasurer’s statement showed the club to be. in credit to the extent of £7, which was considered very satisfactory.

The Officers. Officers elected were: Patron, Mr E. C. Foote: president, Mr Godden; vicepresidents, Messrs L. McVeigh, C. Spencer, C. C. Chamberlain, 11. A. Pollock and B. Lanigan: executive. Messrs .T. Gray, G. Wilson, McVeigh, Spencer and Pollock; club captain. Mr W. Gornthwaite; treasurer,. Mr R. Walsh: social committee, Messrs E. Ashby. I. Wilson, H. Hawley. W. Elliott, *R. Richardson and J. Mclnnes: grounds committee, Messrs A. Hill. Marlin, A. McVeigh and Whelan: auditor, Mr I. Wilson: honorary medical officers, Drs. G. W. Lock and H. Burrell. The team officials and the secretary are to he elected by the executive.

Mr J. Bremner offered to donate a medal,, and requested Mr H. D. Spinley to act as judge.

The president introduced to the meeting two members of the Auckland junior Control Board, Messrs Wilkie and Stone.

Mr Wilkie, in a short address, said that the Papakura club was held in high esteem by the parent body, which appreciated to the full the progress made in the past. He said a cup was presented each year to the club winning the most points. Last season Richmond proved the winner and Papakura was second. Richmond, being a senior club, it showed that Papakura was the best junior club last season, and lie trusted the club would be able to maintain its position.Appreciative references were made to the services of Mr A. Lewis as secretary last season; to the women’s committee; and to the Franklin Times for reports of last season’s matches. It was decided to hold the first practice on March 30. and to recommend the executive to arrange a picnic for March 31. The membership fee was fixed at ss. of which amount 2s must be paid to the parent body before a membei is eligible to play m a competition came. . , Votes of sympathy were passed to Mrs Green and Mr E. Pope in their recent bereavements. A vote of thanks to ihe chairman concluded a very successful meeting.
