CRICKET NOTES.

PAPAKURA v. MT. ALBERT GRAMMAR OLD BOYS. RAIN ROBS LOCAL TEAM OF VICTORY. Owing to wet weather the previous Saturday the above match had to be decided on Saturday afternoon’s play, and il was distinctly unfortunate for Papakura that heavy rain came on when there was an hour’s playing time still to go. The visitors won the toss and decided to send their opponents in.. The local team showed their appreciation of this treatment by knocking up 203 in a little more than two hours. Wiggins (4G) topped the score with clean, forceful strokes. All the team made runs and sundries contributed 20. Mt. Albert bowling was not up to its usual standard, as the main trundler was absent. The fielding was good and only one catch was dropped —one from Wiggins.

On going into bat disaster came quickly to the visitors, the first three wickets producing only four runs. Mt. Albert did not seem to be able to play the fast bowling of Evans, Francis and Sammond. the first of whom secured four wickets for nine runs in seven overs. Francis took one for seven in six overs. Hammond one for none in hi*

first over. Six wickets were down, for 21 runs when, heavy rain fell and play was stopped for the day—an hour before drawing time. The match was consequently drawn. The game was controlled by Messrs Elliott and Wright. . Scores are :
