DISTRICT NEWS.

PUNB BACHELORS' BALL. A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. Probably the most successful and enjoyable ball for many years was held in the Puni hail on Thursday last. The hall had been tastefully decorated by an enterprising- committee in red and white streamers, while the door was in excellent condition for dancing, which was carried on fill the early hours of Friday morning. The duties of M.C.'s were ably carried out by Messrs G. Dazeloy, R. Parton and R. Fulton. Splendid music was supplied by Parker's dance band. During the evening extras were played by Mrs L. Adams and -Mr Tate, these being greatly appreciated. Several novelties, namely two Monte Carlos and a spot waltz were won by the following: First Monte Carlo, Miss M. Malone and Mr R. Woolen: second Monte Carlo, Mrs Menown and Mr G. Walker; spot waltz, Miss Markham and Mr G. Thompson. Visitors were present from all the surrounding districts. Among those present were: — Mesdames G. Mansfield, wearing black georgette and lace: Downs (Mauku), champagne satin: E. Yorke, black satin: Luke Adams, lemon satin; beaute with silk lace overdress: A. Menown, apricot frilled crepe de cTline.

Armstrong, floral voile; Elsie Cole, apple son, saxe blue taffeta : Ash win, powgreen crinkled crepe: Dorothy Smithder blue French crepe de chine: T. Aiekin. pink georgette with cape to tone: Dorothy Sproul, frock of claret satin: Alma Gurney. black and gold satin: R. Malone. shell pink spotted tulle; E. Irwin, delphinium blue georgette: Z. Anderton. shell pink satin with frilled godets: Heather Evans, red satin; N. Malone, cyclamen taffeta, diamante trimming: G. Alexander, white satin: Thelma Fahey (Bombay), green organdie: Stancy McLernon, blue' floral taffeta: B. Hiscock, nile flame chiffon velvet: R. Harrison 'Bombay), pink crepe de chine: Daphne Seymour, cherry satin: Audrey Carter (Bombay), blue satin beaute: C. Harris (Bombay), lemon satin beaute.

NOTES FROM BOMBAY. LIBRARY COMMITTEE SOCIAL. The Bombay Library committee held a social and dance in the Bombay ball, the proceeds being devoted toward the purchase of new books. Ping pong, cards and dancing were all entered into with enthusiasm, with the result that a most happy evening was spent. Prizes for cards were won by Mrs Grant and Mr R. Parker. Excellent music was supplied by Mr T. Moody, an extra being played by Mrs 11. Carter. The duties of M.C.*s were discharged by Messrs N. Miller and W. Clarke. A dance arranged by the factory suppliers was held on Saturday evening, as a farewell to Mr K. McKenzie. who has been manager at Bombay for two years. Mr F. Wootten. chairman of the committee, on behalf of the committee and suppliers, presented Mr Mackenzie with a suitcase as a mark of the esteem in which he is held. The speaker referred to the guest's good work during the time he was in Bombay and wished him every success in his promotion to the relieving staff of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company. Ltd. .Excellent music was supplied by Mrs Jarvic. while extras on the bagpipes were played by Miss 0. Mackenzie, of Cambridge. Mr .!. .Miller was an efficient M.C. A Monje Carlo dance was won by Miss Joyce Whitehead and Mr R. ITood. and a spot waltz by Miss M. Mackenzie and Mr R. Hood.

AKA AKA NOTES. FOOTBALL CLHB'S DANCE. A dance arranged by the Aka Aka Football Club was held in the hall on Saturday evening. There was a good a I tendance and a jolly time was spent. Music by the Kia Ora orchestra was all that could be desired. Extras played by Miss Una Barriball and Mr L. Muggins were much appreciated. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs C. Garland and Mr A. McGill. A dainty supper was served at 11 o'clock and dancing continued until a few minutes before midnight. Messrs D. Anderson and A. Gordon were masters of ceremonies.
