THE CLEVEDON BRANCH. VISITORS ENTERTAINED. The Clevedon hall was the scene of a gay and happy throng on Friday last when the Clevedon brunch of the W.D.F.U. entertained delegates from the other branches of the Wailemata i Provincial Council. There were over j 200 visitors and members present, the ' following brandies being represented: j Auckland, Ardmore, Alfriston-Brookby, Drury, Karaka, Maungatawhiri, Mauku, Mangere, Patumahoe, Pokeno, Pukekohe East, Punl, Paerata, Pukekawa, Onewliero, Takanini and Taupaki. Two members of the Catholic Women's League were also present. ; The hall was most tastefully de- i corated witli coloured streamers and ;

bowls of beautiful spring (lowers. The president of the local branch, Mrs Noel P. Adams, welcomed the visitors at the door and after .judging knitting and savoury competitions adjourned to the supper room where ;.». dainty and substantial buffet luncheon was served. After luncheon a very enjoyable and varied programme of amusements was presented: songs by Mrs Wells (Pukekawa) and Mesdames Mellsop, J. McPherson and C. W. Stephens were greatly enjoyed. Community singing, ably led by Mrs J. McPherson, helped to radiate the cheer germ, and several of the more energetic indulged in dancing. A progressive competition consisting of threading needles, lifting marbles with knitting needles, building card houses, and spearing peanuts proved most mirth-provoking as did also a smelling competition. A most amusing playlet entitled "Aunt Lizzie's Friend" was most warmly applauded and those taking part were congratulated on the splendid manner in which the different characters were sustained. The cast was as follows: "Mrs Soaring." Mrs 11. W. Driver: "Miss Stella Soaring." Miss E. Scott: "Aunt Lizzie," Mrs G. Campbell: "her friend," Mrs C. C. Munro: "Martha" (the maid), Mrs A. Moneur: "Mrs Snobbe-Cranston," Mrs IT. D. Bannerman: "Mrs JeffersonWhite," Mrs R, Quinn; "Miss Wimple." Mrs Chestnut. Mrs Campbell and Mrs Moneur were the recipients of most unique and amusing bouquets. The former's gift was made to represent a hen's nest with two chickens just out and a row of ti-tree surrounding, and the streamers decorated with a picture of a pedigree pig. Mrs Moncur's composed of a floor mop and poppies surrounded with a frill made from a duster. Visitors Thanked. Mrs Adams in a happy speech. thanked the visitors Tor responding so heartily to the branch's invitation and said it was such meetings as thes\ consist in- of both town and country menibers that impressed on all present what a strong and united band of women the women's division of the Farmers' Tnion was becoming.

Mrs .T. T. F. Mitchell, president of the Auckland branch, replied on behalf of the visitors. A very dainty welcome cake made by Mrs Campbell and iced by Mrs Munro. was out by Mrs Adams and after afternoon tea had been served. it was cut un and handed round. This brought a most enjoyable day to a close. During the afternoon many old friendships were renewed and fresh ones formed, and as members introduced themselves to one another the remark was repeatedly heard. "Well. the world is a small place after all." The winners in the competitions were as follow: —Plain knitting, Mrs Rroderiek I. Mrs McDonald 2: fnn*y kniiting. Mrs L. 0. Scoff f. Mrs Luke 5 : socks.
