Rate of Interest Reduced. The Commissioner of the Rural Credit Board had advised the secretary (Mr G. F. McDonafcl) of the Papakura Co-operative Rural Intermediate Credit Association that the board has decided to reduce the rate of interest charged to farmers from 6i to 6 per cent, the reduction to take effect from May 1. The commissioner further pointed out that the board had made this reduction in response to the Government's wish for a general reduction in interest rates with a desire to assist farmers' borrowings. It is interesting to note that Papakura is the only Burnt Intermediate Credit Board between Henderson and Hamilton, with the exception of Waiuku. Touches of Humour. Touches of humour characterised portions of applications received by the Papakura Town Board on Monday evening for the position of ranger. "I have a good horse, saddle and bridle, and am capable of making two or three trips to Otahuhu (the pound) a day," wrote one applicant. "I have no clog or whip with which T might disturb the peaceful slumbers of board members or the residents of Papakura generally while making my night and early morning raids on the stock which come under the board's jurisdiction." This letter caused rounds of laughter. A second one contained the following extract: "T am prepared to move and live in Papakura but have no friends there." "He should be seriously considered as he has no -cobbers' here." remarked a member. When another application was read a member asked: "How many 'cobbers' has he got?"
