PUKEKOHE STOCK MARKET.

THURSDAY'S SALE

Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., conducted their, regular stock sale at Pukekohe on Thursday, when there was a fairly large yarding of all classes of cattle and pigs. There was a good attendance of buyers and competition at times was spirited. Quotations are:—

Pigs: Over 700 were penned and there was steady competition for all classes, late rates being realised. Choppers sold from £1 5s to £2 12s; heavy prime baconers, £2 3s to £2 9s; light and medium baconers, £1 14s to £2; heavy porkers, 27s to 30s; light and medium porkers, 20s to 245; small and unfinished porkers, 15s to 18s. There was a keener demand for store pigs and prices were slightly advanced. Best framed stores sold from 14s to 18s; slips, 10s to 13s; suckers and weaners, 5s to 9s; sows due to farrow, £2 to £2 17s. 6d; serviceable hoars, £2 2s to £3 3s.

Dairy cattle: There was a good yarding, and competition for forward dairy cows and heifers was keener. Best dairy cows and heifers close to profit made from £7 10s to £8 2s 6d; good forward sorts, £6 to £7 ss; rather backward, £3 10s to £5 15s; pedigree Jersey heifer calves sold up to 5£ guineas. Beef: A large yarding -was' offered. Light prime young cows and heifers, £3 10s to £4;.light prime steers, £4 15s to £5 12s Gd; boner cows, 2s 6d to 15s. Store cattle: Best Jersey heifer calves from £2 to £2 4s; smaller, £1 to £1 10s; fresh conditioned 18 months to 24 months old P.A. steers sold from 33s to 375. Bulls sold from £1 to £3 7s 6d. HORSE FAIR". There was an average yarding of horses at Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons' horse fair at Pukekohe on Friday. Prices were similar to those ruling at the previous sale. Medium draughts sold from £lB to £26 10s, according to age and quality; farm horses, £l4 to £25; light harness horses, £6 10s to £ls; hacks,. £3 to £lO 10s: ponies, £2 to £4 10s.
