TOWN BOARD AFFAIRS. COMMITTEE'S REPORTS. WATER AT THE SCHOOL. At .Monday's meeting of the PapaIt ura Town Board the following reports were presented by the various committees: — Waterworks. —Supply of water to school: The clerk was instructed to write to the secretary of the school advising that unless strict supervision was exercised to eliminate waste or water, the hoard will have no option but to meter the supply. Purchase of plant: The foreman was authorised to purchase a ratchctt stock and dies so that the work of installing' meters might be expedited. The report was adopted. WORKS COMMITTEE. The works committee in its report stated that the following works had ! been carried out from May 22 to date: I Installation of water meters: Two ! men have been engaged in installing meters. Extension to main to Richardson's factory: 192 feet of main has been laid and a water connection made to Mr Richardson's joinery factory. Grader work: Started Wm. Rurgcss on driving "the tractor. He has been engaged on Clevedon and Hunua highways, Railway street and Wellington street.

Road repair: In Wellington street a couple of bad holes have been filled with scoria.

Unemployed work: A gang of men employed under No. 5 scheme is making good progress. Plunket street is nearly completed. In Duke street from Nelson street to Wellington street the roadway is partly formed and the footpath on the western side is formed and graded. Elliott street: The footpath from Wood street to Green street is formed and is ready for a coat of metal waste. Nelson street: This road from Duke street to West street is being formed and good progress has been made. -

Wharf street: Town board sections in this locality have had noxious weeds grubbed from them. Fences round Prince Edward Park have received attention. One man has been engaged clearing grass from different streets.

Work in school grounds: One man has been chipping grass in the school grounds and he also erected a stage at the scout's hut and took it down after the opening and removed the timber.

Young's road: The tilling over the pipes in the gully is nearly completed.

Gmat South Road: From Coles' Crescent to Young's road the channel on the eastern side of the road has been cleaned out.

Straying cattle: Obtained a prosecution against Mr W. 11. Thompson for allowing stock to wander on the streets.

Patching of roads: Rlue metal has

been procured to patch Clevedon Highway, Queen Street, Elliott Street, Cook Street and Ilunua highway. The town has had its usual weekly gutter

clean up. Recommendations: The committee recommend that during the coming fortnight the men be employed on finishing the work in Nelson street, also in Elliott street and Duke street. The committee recommends that footpath maintenance he carried on. Drainage through Mr Sweeney's property: The committee has inspected the cause of Mr Sweeney's complaint, and wishes to report that in its opinion no damage has been caused by the drainage, but the committee recommends that 1% chains of 9-inch pipes be laid as soon as they can be secured at a satisfactory price. Garage entrance for Messrs White and Munro: After inspecting the locality the committee desires to report that, the footpath level in the vicinity of these garages will be lowered as the road formation work proceeds so that a satisfactory entrance is obtainable.
