The clerk was instructed to communicate with the Franklin County Council with a view to getting its assistance in the matter.

Mr Harry Harris, of Old Wairoa Road, wrote drawing attention to the bad state of the road fronting his farm residence and asked if the board would consider metalling four chains from the metal road which would give him access to his residence. It was solely for the purpose of draining railway land that the drain was cleaned out. At the present time the permanent way gang had its hands full and would not have time to clean the drain. He regretted he was unable to accede to the request, but added should the persons interested be willing to clean the drain themselves he would raise no objection 1o their doing the work. The board decided to protest strongly as the drain had to be put there owing to the railway line. Mr If. C. Baulf was deputed to wait on the district engineer and the General Manager with a view to placing Hie whole of the facts before them.
