CRICKET NOTES.

GAS COY. DEFEAT PAPAKURA

An improved showing by the Papakura team in all departments resulted in averting a three-point defeat at the hands of the Gas Coy team; and had time permitted Papakura might have turned defeat into victory. The previous day's play had resulted in Gas Coy scoring 227 to which Papakura had' replied- with 5 wickets for 72. Continuing their innings the local team made 149, the chief Contibutors being Humphries 58, Hammond 22 and Totty 17.

In their second knock Coy declared their innings closed at 5 o'clock with five wickets for 78, .which gave the.Papakura men 157 to get and.one hour to do it in. Vigorous hitting by Francis, 55, was largely responsible for the creditable total of 117 for four wickets at which point time was called. P'apakura were trying to force the game which resulted in two men being run out. The day's bowling honours were secured by Hammond for Papakura (.'3 for 13) and Skeen for Gas Coy (5 for 30).
