CLEANING OF DRAIN
NOTICE GIVEN BY COUNCIL. INSPECTION TO BE MADE. A deputation from the Drury Brick and Tile Company waited oh the Franklin County Council on Monday relative to a notice issued to clean a drain flowing through its property at Drury. Mr W. H. Waterhouse stated that in the first case there was not an open drain passing through the land, and secondly there was no trace of the swamp being drained. The company depended on the seepage for its works. • The chairman, Mr J. N. Massey, M.P., explained that the order had to be made when a ratepayer demanded it.
"With all due respect to the council, if the order is served we won't do the work," said Mr Waterhouse. Mr Crawford instanced the case where the Waitemata County Council compelled him to spend £2OO in improving a similar drain, and in spite of this fact the properties of the people below were no better.
Cr. 11. J. Flay and the engineer, Mr J. F. McArthur, were asked to inspect the property, to report and to note objections.
