HEDGE ON CORNER.
QUESTION OF CUTTING BACK.
OWNER WAITS ON COUNCIL. In reply to a notice served on him by the Franklin County Council to tower or to trim the hedge on his land at the corner of the Great Soulh Road and the Pukekohe East Road to a height not exceeding three feet from the ground for a distance of two chains on each side of the corner, Mr A. E. Clarke, Runciman. waited on the council to-day.
Mr Clarice pointed oill that the corner was not a right angle one and was not dangerous. The hedge was invaluable to him as a shelter belt. He held that if the hedge was cut hack for a distance of one chain on each side of the corner i! would suffice. The chairman, Air .T. N. Massey, M.P., said the council had no desire to inflict a hardship on any ratepayer. However, the Auckland Automobile Association was pressing the council. If the request from the A.A.A. was ignored and an accident occurred the council might be held liable. Air Clarke stated that Mr 11. Curd, a member of the association council, had said the corner was not dangerous.
The council agreed to suspend the order isued in order to allow Air Clarice to cut the hedge down for a distance of one chain and . trim hack the remaining one chain, as he agreed to do.
