POLICE COURT.
MAORI SENT TO PRISON. DRUNK IN CHARGE OF A CAR. A sitting of the Pukekohe Police t Court was held this morning, Alessrs D. M. Armstrong and A. P. Daysh, . J.P.’s, presiding. A Maori, Kanara Alatatahi, was charged with being found drunk while in charge of a motor car at Tuakau. Evidence was given to the effetet that about six o’clock on Saturday ‘ evening accused knocked over a cyclist near • the Tuakau recreation ground, and did ; not stop. From a description of the car and the driver, Constable A. J. Maiden later apprehended him and found him to be under the influence of liquor. It was stated accused was on ■ his way from Ngaruawahia to Pukekohe. ” He was convicted and sen- < tenced to one • imprisonment. Alatatahi was then* charged with • converting a rowing boat, valued at £5, the property of Benjamin Tippins, to his own use. •It, was slated that the boat had not been recovered. Accused was convicted and ordered to make restitution.
