“He was a great imperialist, and -worked in the interests of ail. You -will agree that New Zealand is poorer as the result of his death,” said Mr J. "N. Massey, M.P., chairman of the Franklin County Council, when referring to the death of Sir Joseph Ward, at'to-day’s meeting. i “I don’t think it is necessary for ; me to give you an account of his history,” said the chairman. “I will say he has been in the front of public life : - for the last half century.” The great-j est monument to his work is the leg- j ■ islation he placed on the statute book of New Zealand.
