BUTTER OUTLOOK DOUBTFUL

Messrs Leonard and Sons, Ltd., have received advice by cable from London dated July 4, of the following market report:— Cheese: Deliveries, New Zealand and Australian, 23,379 crates; Canadian. 4015 boxes. Stock: New Zealand and Australian, 122,737 crates; Canadian, 110,418 boxes. Price: New Zealand, white, 75/6; coloured, 82/-. The demand is fair, and the market is steady. The outlook is fairly good. Butter: New Zealand, first grade. 134/-; finest; 136/-. The demand is slow, and the market is inclined to be weak. The"outlook is doubtful.

The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office under date July 2: — Tallow: In fair demand at current prices. Current quotations: Good mutton, 29/- per cwt; good beef, 26/6 to 27/6 per cwt; good mixed, 27/- to 27/6 per cwt; gut, 20/- to 24/- per cwt. ■ Butter: Quiet, 136/- to 137/- per cwt. Cheese: Steady, white 76/- per cwt; coloured, 82/- per cwt. Frozen meat: Trade in wether mutton is very slow. The market for ewes is depressed owing to absence of demand. The market is weaker for second quality lamb: first grades remain steady. The market for beef is quiet and unchanged. Wethers, light, 4id to 33d per lb; heavy, 33d to 4id; ewes, 2-id to 3id; lambs (2s), 8 5-8 dto 9d: (8s). 8 3-8 d to 8 5-8 d; (4s), 8d to B|d; (seconds) ,71d to 81d: ox hinds. 43d to s id: ox fores, 23d to 3d: cow hinds, 4d to 41d: cow fores, 21d to 23d.

HAMILTON STOCK SALE. SLIGHT DECREASE IN BEEF. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company Ltd., Hamilton, report:— At the weekly stock sale in the Frankton yards on Tuesday we had a good yarding of beef and store cattle and an extra heavy yarding of fat sheep. Owing no doubt to the large yarding ox beef showed a slight decrease, but good quality cow and heifer sold at late rates.

Competition on fat sheep was not keen and prices showed a considerable drop on last week’s quotations. Late rates were maintained for store sheep and store cattle. There was a small yarding of pigs and values were on a par with last week. We quote:— 3s; medium fat cows, £7 Is to £8; Fat cows and heifers, £8 5s to £9 light, £5 12s 6d to £6 15s: forward conditioned, £4 15s to £5 10s; runners up, to £6 9s. Fat -an dforward 4-tooth wethers, 22s 6d to 24s 2d; fat ewes, 19s; fat hoggets, 15s to 16s 6d; forward hoggets, 13s; S.M. ewes in lamb, 17s 9d to 20s.
