SOLD FOR EXPORT.

A NOTEWORTHY EVENT. MILKING SHORTHORN FOR TASMANIA. A noteworthy event in the annals of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association occurred last moriiTi, when there was shipped from the Dominion a pedigree milking Shorthorn bull, destined for Tasmania. This is the first occasion on which a pedigree bull of this breed has been exported from New Zealand to Tasmania.

The vendor of this bull was Mr W. J. Holmes, ot "Brae Bank," Tuhimata, Runciman, and the purchaser, Miss Constance \Y. Ford, "Grayleigh," Marrawah, Tasmania. The sale was arranged by Mr A. W. Green, secretary of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association.

"Brae Bank Barney" (No. 4763, j Vol. 9), the bull in question, is a two-year-old, a beautiful roan in colour, and he was bred by Mr Holmes. Bar- ' ney is by Dominion Protector of Ruakura, out of Greenfield Strawberry 2nd, a cow with a C.O.R. of 605.70 lbs of fat from 12,998.3 lbs of milk. Dominion Protector in turn is by the imported bull, Dominion Banker (Charge of Darbalara — Dominion Daphne sth, of Darbalara, Imp), C.O.R. 427.9 lbs fat from 11,033 lbs of milk, from Dominion Perfect of Ruakura, C.O.R. 486.37 lbs of fat from 10,778.6 lbs of milk at four-year-old, and one of the finest cows bred at the Ruakura farm of instruction.

Brae Bank Barney is an excellent dairy type animal, showing plenty of Shorthorn character, with a deep body, fine bone, level topllne and excellent length from hip bone to pin bone.

Mr Holmes is to he congratulated upon being the first Milking Shorthorn hreeder in New Zealand to send stock abroad, and It is hoped that further consignments will follow. A cablegram has been' received by Mr Holmes to say that Miss Ford received "Blarney" in splendid condition.- and was highly pleased with her purchase.
