’jEVERSHE CLUB OPENING.

AN ENJOYABLE DAY. (Own Correspondent). The official opening of the Everslie I Golf Club took place on Saturday in the presence of a large gathering of 1 golfing enthusiasts, representatives bei ing present from Otahuhu, Pukekohe ! and Papakura Clubs. The attend--1 ance of visitors would have been considerably larger but for the tact of the Easter holidays. The Everslie course is fast becoming one of the finest courses south of Auckland and it is ‘ understood that in all probability the | Franklin championships will be played ion Everslie this season. The club is ! very fortunate in possessing a very | fine club house. Electric light has | been installed, also a hot and cold I water system provided. Rumour has

It stands at about 100 at present. The captain, Mr S. D. Rice, addressed the gathering previous to the president declaring the links open for play, and extended a very hearty welcome to the visitors and club members alike. He pointed out that the committee had for several weeks been very busy expending time and energy in getting the greens up to a high standard. He intimated that the usual mixed foursomes would be played and expressed the hope all visitors would thoroughly enjoy themselves. He then called on Mr P. G. Parker and officially declared the links open.

Mr Parker said he was very proud of the club and thanked the members for electing him their president for the third season. He was particularly pleased to see such a large attendance and he was also very gratified to know the club would have an 18 hole course ready for play within a .few week’s time. Considering the time of the year, said Mr ■ Parker, and the effect of the dry season, the links were in wonderful order. The club was a particularly vigorous one and it had every reason to congratulate itself on having an 18 hole course available in the near future. He wished the club every success in the coming season and said he had much pleasure in calling on Mrs R. H. Lever, captain of the ladies’ club, to drive the first bal>, which she did most effectively and in keeping with the standard of a club captain. The ladies of the club deserve high praise for the very sumptuous afternoon tea they kindly provided. Their efforts in this direction were appreciated by all. The winners of the mixed foursome were Miss Elsie Cleary and Mr Norman Widdowson. The ladies’ trophy being a silver eversharp pencil and the men’s an amber and mahogany ash tray.

The next best cards were as follows: Miss B. Arbuclde and Freeman. 46. Mrs Maddison and Maddison, 47. Miss Parker and Kay, 50. Mrs J. Richardson and Richardson, 50.

TOURNAMENT ON MONDAY. THREE CLUBS COMPETE. (Own CorresDondent). The Everslie golf club held a tournament on Easter Monday, visitors being present from the Otahuhu and Pukekohe clubs. A medal round played in the morning was won by S. D. Rice with a nett score of 80 The best cards returned for • men were: —C. S. Beechey 81 and T. G. Smith 82. The bogey round in the afternoon was won by T. G. Smith, 5 up, G. C. Ilobson being second with a score of 4 up.
