IN FRANKLIN AREA.

ENGINEER'S REPORT

The Franklin Electric Power Board's 2 engineer, Mr T. R. Overton, in his i monthly report, read at yesterday's . meeting stated that the survey and plans of eight miles of the Pukekawa reticulation has been completed. The , contract schedules for the OnewheroTe Kohanga lines have been prepared. New work livened: Lines were livened at Browne Rd., Cuff's Rd., the first section of low tension, Klondyke Rd., Parson's Rd. and Kauri Rd., Onewhero. Constructional work: The pole gang has completed the Ararimu line comprising 83 poles and 4 single poie substations: -10 odd of the above were iron rails. A start was made this week under contract on the Te Kohanga line. Wire gang No. 1 has been working at Onewhero and has completed 2* miles of 11,000 volt wiring. The gang has now shifted to Te Kohanga. Wire Gang No. 3 has completed the main line and services at Cuff's Rd, being a total of 23 miles of 11,000 volt lines. The wiring of Ararimu line was commenced on October 23. The gang i<* in camp at Ararimu. Service Gang: This gang carried out services al Onewhero,. Pokeno, Mangatawhiri. Aka Aka, Taurangaruru, Opaheke. -Tuakau, Ingram's Rd., Bombay and Rama Rama: erected four guy poles on Pukekohe East line and extended low tension line at Glenbrook. The emergency men erected service lines at Pokeno Valley, Tuakau, Taurangaruru. Waiuku, Buckland. Kohe Kohe, Waiau Pa, Drury; erected road light at W'aiau Pa and attended to line patrol, street and community lights. Transport : The pole lorry carted out to Ararimu 80 poles: to Te Kohanga S 3; Karaka 12; Tuakau 3; The other lorries have been fully occupied. The pole lorry met with an accident on the 'Ararimu Rd. by turning over a bank on her side. The two men in the cab had a bad shaking and the lorry was repaired in our own workshop with the exception of the cab-frame. A claim has been made on the Insurance Co. covering the cost. Specifications were prepared and tenders invited for new trucks and car—these have been dealt with by the committee appointed at last meeting. Permits for New Work.

Garage : Necessary repairs have been done to the cars and lorries to keep them in running condition.

Installations: Permits issued for new work and extensions totalling 58 making a total to date of 30G7. Applications signed up for new work 60, a total to date of 2824. The largest addition was a 40 h.p. motor at Guillard's quarry.

Group Contracts: G. H. Hunt and Sons have completed practically all of the houses in the Onewhero district and several sheds: the work is going ahead very slowly and not by any means like previous groups. Ail of the completed work has been tested and livened up. The Te Kohanga portion of group 38 has not been started but as line, work is just started there i- no urgency as yet. C. Neilson and Co. has completed 'Brown's Rd. and all installations are connected, one shed cannot however be completed until 3 phase transformers arrive. W. Milne, Papakura is working on installations in Cuff's Rd., Drury-Waiuku Rd. and will be ready when transformers come to hand. A number of extensions have already come on in various groups.

Canvassing; Ararimu group particulars w(;ru adjusted and prepared for tenders which were invited. A canvass was taken on Geraghty's Rd. Tuakau, and consideration will be given to the problem when Messrs Aiken and Geraghty send in their roquireme its' which they have promised to do. General: I would like authority -co make purchases of meters, bare copper wire and T.B. wire and electric ranges. With regard to irrigation we have had a trial of sprayers and arranged with .1. B. Mac Ewen Ltd. to provide a pump on appro, which will lift about 2000 gallons per hour. Matters referred to me from last meeting have been cleared up with the exception of the question of electrically heating the svvimming bath about which I am obtaining further information. The report was adopted and the engineer outhorised to make purchases as enumerated above.
