' THE CROQUET CLUB. WINDING UP THE SEASON. Prettily decorated with ferns, and brightly Jit, the Victory Hall at Mauku presented a gay and lively scene last night upon the occasion.of the winding up of the croquet season by a ball given by the club. There was a good attendance, but it was not so large as -It would have been if it had not been for the ball in aid of Sister Esther’s ; fund, held simultaneously at Pukekohe. The whole executive of the club acted as an entertainment committee under the energetic management of Mrs. Hoey, the president, and Mrs. S. Rowe, the secretary* and the ladies provided the excellent supper which was partaken of a little before midnight. Messrs. J. Franklin and G. Wilson made efficient and attentive M’s.C. The music was provided by The New Merry Jesters’ Orchestra, and the dancers voted the floor as nearly perfect as was possible. The following were the winners of the competitions:—Spot' waltz, Miss Margaret. Wright and Mr. Grahame Vallance; waltzing competition, Miss Jean Hardy and Mr. Lionel Johnson; Monte Carlo, Miss Nancy Holder and Mr. Ivan Care.
