Bound for Australia. Mr. W. Kirk, of Buckland, private trainer for Mr. W. Scholium, of Auckland, has arranged to leave by the Ulimaroa on July 15 for Australia, with a team of four horses. The team will include White Wings (the full sister to Agrion, for which Mr. Schol- | ].um paid 750 guineas at the Waikanae yearling sale), Royal Blood, True Blood, and probably Golden Autumn. Services Honoured. At the farewell social arranged by the Puni residents and West End tennis club, in honour of Mr. and Mrs. J. Negus, who are leaving Puni for Auckland, and held on Monday evening, the opportunity was taken of making a presentation to Mr. D. Fallows, ex-secretary of the club. The president, Mr. E. J. Adams, eulogised the work performed by Mr. Fallows, and asked him to accept a shaving outfit in recognition of his valuable services, from the members. The recipient suitably acknowledged the gift, remarking that he had done nothing outstanding to warrant such a beautiful gift. A Danger Removed. Some little time ago the president of the Pukekohe chamber of commerce, Mr. F. A. Hosking, drew the chamber’s attention to the danger that -existed to children on the East Street overhead bridge. He pointed out that youngsters wer.c in the habit of putting their heads through the railings in order to get a closer look at passing trains, and there was a grave danger of them overbalancing and falling to the permanent way below. Representations were made to .the Railway Department, which eventually realised the seriousness of the position, as wires have been placed between each pair of railings and the danger minimised, if not totally removed.

Extra Large Road Metal. There have been numerous complaints of the excessive size of the road metal used for patching the Puni road, towards the borough boundary. " The use of such large stone merely defeats the end it is intended to serve, and results in a great waste of money, for it will not bind, but is simply pushed on one side by the traffic, ultimately, finding a resting-place in the deep mud on each side of the roadway. In addition to inflicting a good deal of unnecessary suffering upon horses, it also is extremely hard on motor tyres. The use of more finely-broken metal is found both more effective and more economical. , ,

Lodge Bethcsda Rcbekah in aid of funds for the poor and needy met with a good .response Hast evening, with the. result that Some £7 odd will be handed over to Sister Esther to assist with her charitable efforts.
