FERTILITY OF PATUMAHOE SOIL.
NEW ’BUS SERVICE
(Own Correspondent)-, Once more Patumahoe soil haV proved its great fertility, and Mr R. K. Membery. whose farm is situated on the Patumahoe hill, at whose foot- lies the township of Patumahoe, has produced a crop of mangels estimated, to yield more than 70 tons to the ac(Hre. He was an easy winner of the oyo and medal presented by the Union for the best crop of grown in Mauku riding. ,
Increased facility for journeying is being provided by the Waiuku-Auck-lanel ’bus service, which runs daily, Sundays included, and the venture is being given good support. The advent of regular heavy ’bus traffic will mean greater attention to road formation, and the authorities should keep in view the linking up of Waiuku with the Main Highway at Drury, via Patumahoe, by an up-to-date roadw r ay. This rautc must come into the list of main highways, as it has to carry a considerable amount of traffic.
The Railway Department has also found it necessary to run three trains to Pacrala on Saturdays to connect with the Main Trunk service.
A meeting of residents was held on Saturday evening to make arrangements for a grand dance-, to he held on Thursday, July 1, to celebrate the first anniversary of the Patumahoe War Memorial Hall. A strong committee was elected and every effort will bo made to make the entertainment worthy of the occasion. Readers should watch llie advertising columns of the Times for further information. The contractors are, proceeding apace with work of wiring premises in Patumahoe township, and it is expected that current will be supplied during the coming week. Powerful street lights are being installed in front of the I-lall, at Henry's corner, and at railway crossing. < It is understood that the work of supplying an extra telephone circuit from Auckland to Patumahoe will be put in hand very soon. This work was authorised in the list . last year. The extension of circuit to Waiuku would give greater telephone facilities to that area, and relieve the congestion that frequently occurs in regard to toll communications between this district and Auckland.
