MRS MARY ANN HART. „ AN OLD COLONIST. Another link in die chain of old pioneers vanished at about 1.30 o’clock tin's morning, wilh the passing to the Great Beyond of Airs .Mary Ann Hart, widow of the late. Air John Hart, of Pukekohe. , The late Afrs Hart, who was in her

SOlli year, was born at Baligargen, Ireland, in February, 1836, and was the .eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs .James McMurray. She married Mr John Hart, in Ihe land of her birth, and with Iheir family came to New Zealand in the ship “Ganges,” landing at Auckland on February 14, 1865. The- family look up iheir residence at Drury for a short lime and were then transferred to Pokeno, where Mr Hart was engaged in road making for the Public Works Department; Later Mr and Mrs Marl removed to a farm on the Great South Road, owned by the late Mr .lames Rutherford, and Mr Hart occupied the post of manager for about a year, and then he took up residence at Piikekohe on a farm owned by a school teacher named Grant. That properly now forms part of the Franklin Racing Club’s racecourse. Mr Hart acted as caretaker of this property for about. I i months, and then acquired the property situated at Hart’s corner, mi the Pukekohe-Waiuku road. This transaction look place 57 years ago. The late Mrs Hart, resided there with her family, and when her husband passed away 43 Jeurs ago she continued lo reside with her family. Up liil five years ago she resided with her non, Mr John Hart, and latterly with another son. Mr George Hart, of East Street. Pukekohe.

In I lie early days when there were no doctors in the country districts the lute Mrs Hart attended to the sick and acted as both, doctor and nurse. In this respect she...did much good to relieve the suffering and her innumerable acts of kindness in the days gone by are still referred lo by many of, the pioneers. Her work in this direction won for her a circle of life-long friends. In church affairs Mrs Hart look a keen and active interest, and while she was a staunch supporter of Ihe Salvation Army, she was ever ready and willing lo assist any worthy object.

Mrs Hart had been an invalid for some years, but despite her condition she always possessed a happy disposition.

She leaves a grown-up family of font*. —-two sous. Messrs .1. .1. Hart and i'merge Hart, of Pukekohe, and two daughters. Mrs Watkins, of Tc Aroha West, and Adjutant Hart, of the Salvation Army, Pukekohe. There are eiglit grand-children and six greatgrandchildren.
