PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. A drowning fatality occurred yesterday afternoon at 1 Tangimoana. at the mouth of the Rangitikei River. The victim was Charles LyOn, of Rongo'tea, a tailor and storekeeper. Deceased and his son were gathering driftwood in two boats, and were returning up the river in one and towing the wood in the other, but failed to make headway against the current. They endeavoured to make progress then by again taking a boat each, but finally the son went for help. Although this was quickly secured, on the return of the son and the helpers they could see no sign of deceased. Dragging operations have so far been unsuccessful.
