A certain pompous* laird met a farmer while out one morning. “Well, Sandy, he said patronisingly. “you’re getting very bent. Why don’t you stand up straight, like me ?” “Eh, mon,” answered Sandy, “d’ye see you field o’ corn?” “I do” said the laird. “Ah, well,” said Sandy, “ye’ll notice that the full heids hang down an’ the empty ones stand up.” He who is honest because honesty ii the best policy is not honest. Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns. Other are thankful that thorns have roses.
