CHATHAM CUP WON BY WELLINGTON TEAM

■(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 24. Waterside (Wellington), the winners of the North Island elimination for the Chatham Association Football Cup beat Technical Old Boys (Christchurch), the winners of the South Island elimination., by two goals to one after extra time had been played on the Basin Reserve on Saturday. Waterside won the competition in 1933-39-40. Christchurch Technical have not held the cup. Conditions were ideal, and about 6.000 spectators witnessed the contest. The cup was presented to the winners by the Governor-General. Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C. The game was a hard, grinding one, rather than an exhibition of polished foctball. The visitors'used more constructive tactics than Waterside. Their hacks frequently advanced to leave the Waterside forwards oil-side. Bell and ■janes scored for Waterside and Bailey for Technical.
