MosgiePs chances of beating Christchurch Technical Old Boys in the South Island final for the Chatham Cup, played at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday under perfect conditions, ap, :ared very good until the last 15 minutes. In that time the visitors turned a one-goal defeat into a one-goal victory, and the Taieri team were clearly eclipsed. The game was closely fought and interesting throughout. Both teams were on their mettle in the second half, but the Mosgiel forwards were finding difficulty in beating the Technical backs, and most of their attacks were checked in the early stages. Eventually, however, McCloy, with some pretty footwork, penetrated the defences, and crossed to Upland, who netted from close in after 15 minutes’ play. A melee in the Mosgiel goal was followed by the equalising goal, netted by Grieve, who received from Bailey. A few minutes later Bailey again kicked, and the ball came off Bryce and into the net, to make the score Technical 4, Mosgiel 3. Despite Mosgiel’s efforts, there was no further score. The referee was Mr L. Swanson.
