PRINCESS ELIZABETH TAKES SALUTE OF SCOUTS AND GUIDES

(Rec. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 13. Princess Elizabeth took the salute at a parade in the Mall of 1,850 Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, who are attending the international Scouts and Guides’ folk dance festival.Thousands of people stood in a solid mass outside Buckingham Palace and lined the Mall on a fine Sunday afternoon. They lustily cheered Princess Elizabeth as she drove to the saluting base.

King’s Scouts and Queen’s Guides from all parts of the British Isles formed a guard of honour.

ROYAL ATTENDANCE AT ASCOT RACES

LONDON, July 12. King George, the Princesses, and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten attended the Ascot race meeting, at which His Majesty’s two runners filled second and third places in two races. The Princesses unobtrusively mingled with the crowds in the paddock. A gateman did not recognise Princess Elizabeth when she went to the entrance of the enclosure, and stopped her because she was not- wearing a badge. She was not allowed to pass until a detective stepped forward and identified her.
