WAIRARAPA STOCK LOSSES LESS THAN EXPECTED

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 3. While the full position would not be disclosed until the flood waters had receded from all the farms, a preliminary estimate of the stock losses in the Wnirarapa would be about 9,000 sheep and 300 head of cattle, said the Assistant Director-General of Agriculture. Mr It. B. Tennont, to-night. Mr Tennent visited the district to-day to assist in the setting up-of a committee to help the settlers. . Prom a national point of view the losses wore not as serious as had been expected earlier, said Mr Tennent, but lie did not want to minimise the griev-ous.-.losses suffered by individual farmers. The settlers in the flooded areas were showing an exceptionally fine spirit, and were getting down‘to the job of repairing the damage.(Mr Tennent said-the aim of the committee would be to. give the speediest assistance- possible. It would function through the Department of- Agriculture; in co-operation with the Federated Farmers.
