SALARIES OF CITY COUNCIL EXECUTIVE OFFICERS INCREASED
A long-standing application for increases in the salary of executive officers of the Dunedin City Council has recently been partially granted* according to information obtained by the ‘ Star ’ to-day, from the chairman of the Finance Committee, Cr W. B. Taverner. According to a Press Association telegram, similar increases were recently granted to executive officers of. the Auckland City Council.
In 1945 the City Council decided to increase the salaries of its three chief executive officers—the town clerk, the city engineer, and the city electrical engineer—to £1,500 a year. The increase was approved by the "Wages Commissioner, but subsequently, early last year, the Stabilisation Commissioner, Mr L. C. Webb, appealed against the increase to the Arbitration Court, which adjourned the proceedings.'
