Precedency May Complete a Double at Hawke's Bay

With only two meetings set down for to-morrow, the second day of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s meeting will command most interest for ’’ racegoers ” who sit by the radio. The card is well filled, and should produce some good racing. The improving Precedency won ‘'attractively last Saturday, and with an easy track again likely to-morrow, he promises to start favourite. Another recently-promoted hack in Dark Flash has also been racing well, and he has place prospects. Skyhawk, an odds .on favourite for the hurdles last Saturday, when he missed a place, will have a chance of reinstating himself to-morrow, while Gay Rouen has good form to recommend him for the: steeples.

LORD BROIEFORT NORTHERN CHOICE

(Special.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 27. Providing the weather holds good, the Greymouth Jockey Club’s winter fixture promises to be the most successful for some years. All of the fields are well filled, and include a strong team from Riccarton. There will be several horses from South Canterbury, including the Washdyke stable mates, Verdant and Lost Art, who are booked for Trentham. Verdant has the unusual burden of 12.6 in the seven furlong Gladstone Handicap, and has to give Legal Rose, next on the list, two stone and 61b. Lost Art is more favourably placed in his engagement, the mile and a-quarter Grandstand Handicap, and is certain to be first choice. He won a similar event at Motukarara earlier in the season before having his run of successes over hurdles. Lord ißroiefort, from the same stable, has been unlucky in most of his hurdle races to date, but he should not have a difficult task in the Winter Hurdles 'under his impost of 9.10. The win-and-plnce system will be in use, and the following horses can be expected to be well supported:— Winter Hurdles.—Lord Broiefort, Dinky Di, Turf Topic. June Trot.—Lady Beverley-Gold Nip bracket, Ann Volo, Henry of Navarre. Kaimata Hack.—Wee Mac, Young John, Home Again. Grandstand Handicap.—Lost Art, Perwig, Nightchild. Barrytown Hack. —Royal Flash, Wee Mac, Early Night. Gladstone Handicap.—Legal Rose, High Ideal, Burberry. » Cobden Trot.—Lady Beverley-Gold Nip bracket, Henry of Navarre, Ann Volo.
