GAS POSITION BLEAK IN WELLINGTON

(P.A.) . WELLINGTON, June 26. The gas position in Wellington has deteriorated further and the company states that unless coal supplies arrive within the next day or two an overall reduction of pressure will be necessary. The Karepo arrived from Westport yesterday with 170 tons of coal, but because of bad weather tons have been unloaded so far. The watersiders, however, have offered to work the Karepo this afternoon whether the weather is wet or fine. The l’etone and Hutt Gaslighting Board will receive sufficient coal from the Karepo to keep the works going until Monday.
